Swanturbines is working closely with Cygnus Energy on the
commercial exploitation of the technology.
James has been the
driving force behind Swanturbines since its conception in 2001.
He is responsible for technical development and engineering
sign-off.
He raised significant equity finance from private investors for work to
date. He is now project lead on the
£7m Technology Demonstrator Project Cygnet and
was Principal Engineer on the KEF sponsored Collaborative Industrial Research
Project (CIRP). Between 2003 and 2005, James completed a PhD -
Performance modelling of tidal stream turbines and wave
interaction modelling (most advanced in the industry) and
designed the 1m diameter turbine prototype. He also has
pioneered techniques to assess the impact of marine growth on
tidal turbine efficiency.
Project Manager
(Cygnet)
The Cygnet Project Manger is a mechanical
engineer who has vast experience in the development of bespoke
solutions in the marine and renewable energy industries. He has
managed the installation and testing of a tidal stream
demonstrator and an offshore foundation system. He has 10 years
experience managing the installation of anemometry masts and 10
years experience managing the construction of yachts and
advanced composite racing dinghies. He has managed development
projects for Western Windpower, Corus and others, which
have included self burying suction foundations, tilt up
meteorological masts and large yachts.
Project Manager
(Scale-up)
The Scale-up Project
Manager has a first class
degree in engineering from Cambridge University and 10 years of
professional experience in a range of disciplines from
aerodynamics to electronics design. At Rolls-Royce plc he was
considered a company expert in the preliminary design of civil
gas turbines and had technical responsibility for the design of
the Trent 600 engine for the Boeing 747-400ERX. From 2004 to
2008 Tim set up and ran his own business which developed,
certified, manufactured and marketed a new instrumentation
product. This technology led to 5 patent applications (four in
the UK and one in the US)
